Photovoltaics, or PV for short, are a solar power technology that uses solar cells or solar photovoltaic arrays to convert light from the sun directly into electricity. Obtaining Photovoltaic systems for a home or business is easy, as they are readily available through online retailers or at store locations. Bulk retailers are spread throughout the country, with California boasting the largest concentration of vendors located in the entire nation.
Major photovoltaics manufacturers include BP Solar, Kyocera, Q-Cells, Sanyo, Sharp Solar, SolarWorld and Suntech. Many of these companies produce and install crystalline modules directly onto any roof. But, there are also alternative forms, if a panel on the roof sounds like an eyesore. Select companies can produce a thin film of silicone roofing laminate that can be applied on any standing seam metal roofs or shingles.
